Veneers are also the treatment people have the most secondhand information about, most of it from before-and-after photos that skip everything in between. Here is what the process actually involves at Modern Smiles, including the part where we sometimes recommend against it.
Why proximity matters more than you would think
Veneers are not a one-visit treatment. Between the consult, the digital design review, the preparation appointment, the try-in, and the final bonding, you are coming in several times. A practice fifteen minutes away is meaningfully easier to work with than one across the hill, particularly when a try-in appointment reveals something you want adjusted.
That is a practical argument rather than a clinical one, but it is the reason a lot of Toluca Lake and North Hollywood patients end up choosing a local office over a Beverly Hills one for the same treatment.
The digital smile preview comes before anything irreversible
We design your smile on screen before a single tooth is prepared. Using scans of your own teeth, we build a render of the proposed result — shape, length, proportion, how the edges sit against your lip line.
This is the most important appointment in the whole sequence, and it is the one to take your time with. Bring photos of what you are going for. Say so if the teeth look too long, too square, too uniform. Changing a render costs nothing. Changing bonded porcelain is a different conversation entirely.
It is also where honest disagreement happens. If you ask for something we think will look obviously artificial on your face, we will tell you, show you an alternative, and let you decide.
What $10,000 covers
A full arch of porcelain veneers at Modern Smiles starts at $10,000 for ten units. That covers the digital design, the try-in, the master ceramist's work, and the final bonding.
The ceramist matters more than most patients realize. Our veneers are hand-layered rather than milled from a single block of shaded porcelain, which is what allows translucency near the edges and a slightly warmer core — the optical qualities that keep teeth from reading as a flat white row. It is also slower and more expensive, which is why not every quote you get is comparable.

Bonded, not cemented
Porcelain veneers are bonded to enamel, which is a chemical connection to the tooth surface rather than a layer of cement holding a cap in place. That distinction is worth understanding because it drives the rest of the treatment: bonding works best against enamel, so the more of your natural enamel we preserve during preparation, the better the long-term result.
Conservative preparation is the whole game. Aggressive reduction makes the ceramist's job easier and the veneer's job harder.
When veneers are the wrong answer
This is the section most veneer pages leave out. If what actually bothers you is that your teeth are crowded or rotated, veneers are an expensive way to disguise an alignment problem — and they require removing healthy enamel to do it. Invisalign first, then veneers only if you still want shape or color changed, is frequently the better and cheaper sequence.
Active gum inflammation or untreated grinding also need handling first. Bonding porcelain over either one is how you end up doing the case twice.
